This weekend more than 300lbs of sand will be brought to the “B” Street Cruise Ship terminal in San Diego. Then, over the course of the 4 day event, 11 World Sand Sculpting Masters will craft those tiny pebbles into feats of unimaginable art. “Sand” Diego is the only place in the world where this competition takes place and it only happens once a year! If the sky high sand art isn’t enough to peak your interest there is still plenty to see and do here: music performances, giant art sale, and a sandbox and sand sculpting classes for the kids.
Anyone in your family love ships? Especially pirate-style sail boats? Then this event is for them. This weekend is the Festival of Sail! Hosted by the Maritime Museum of San Diego, this event is the largest Tall Ship festival on the west coast! There are plenty of options to fit many tastes and budgets. You could actually be a part of the parade by riding one of the parade ships. For the more adventurous sign up to be part of a mock canon fight! For the lovers of classical music and beautiful pyrotechnics, this weekend the San Diego Symphony has the 1812 Tchaikovsky Spectacular! The SD Symphony will be performing 9 pieces by the famous composer while gorgeous fireworks play off in the background. Playing both September 2nd and 3rd, this performance is sure to be a blast!
